CNC Sheet Metal Bending

Bending sheet metal makes it possible to create a wide variety of part geometries. The angle and location of the bend can be precisely controlled, multiple bends can be placed closely in relation to each other and in different directions to create multi-bend shapes, enclosures, brackets and a variety of parts, and normally without any investment in custom tooling. This results in a high level of flexibility to create almost any shape required quickly, especially when paired with Komacut’s laser cutting service.

The Komacut platform, backed by its cutting-edge sheet metal bending machines and highly skilled workforce, makes it easy to obtain sheet metal parts at mass production quality and pricing, quickly and painlessly. Simply upload your drawings to receive real-time quotes for bended sheet metal parts and detailed feedback on part design and optimization, then submit your order to have your parts shipped anywhere, via your preferred forwarder or logistics provider.

There are a variety of bending techniques available. Some are more accurate and others simpler, but each has its own advantages. The major CNC bending techniques when bending steel or other materials include air bending are bottom bending. Komacut utilizes air bending to create precision sheet metal parts quickly and with a high level of repeatability. To learn more about bending in general or to understand the differences between the commonly used bending processes, refer to our articles exploring sheet metal bending:

Some of the key advantages of steel bending or bending metals in general include:

- Speed of manufacture: automation and latest technologies enable us to produce large quantities of components in relatively short time.
- Accuracy: with proper design for manufacturability considerations, bended sheet metal parts can be extremely accurate, especially when the latest CNC bending machines are used.
- Less post processing: unlike welded parts, after bending, products require little to no processing, other than any additional surface finishing or hardware required.
- Reduction in the number of parts: as the components are made from one piece of material instead of multiple parts with joints, this serves to simplify logistics, BOMs and reduce overall complexity.

Below are the factors to consider when choosing CNC bending as your production process:

Bending

MAIN FACTORS

AngleAny angle is possible
RadiusFrom 1.0 mm to 16.0 mm
MaterialSome materials (e.g., aluminum 6061) will start to crack at 120 degrees
multiple bendsAnything can be bent, but there is a need to consider the origin location

ADDITIONAL

Angular Tolerances+/- 0.5 degree
XYZ Tolerances Sheet Bending0.30 mm
